Friday Jethro and I enjoyed the afternoon in Adelaide's Botanical Gardens. I spent a lot of time in the seated position soaking up the sun and Jethro took a lot of pictures. In the evening two of my Canadian friends and I had a kangaroo BBQ downstairs. And yes, I successfully cooked meat without the fire department arriving. Amazing, I know. This was actually the first time I have cooked meat (except fish) since that incident. I am not a huge meat eater, so this sounds a bit more extreme than it actually is.
Following, us three took a bus to Spats & met up with a few Australian girls. Spats is a cozy place in Adelaide's eastern suburb. They offer a full menu but it appeared as if most people were just enjoying a hot beverage and desert. That is what we were after. It was precious. Small, quaint tables were scattered about the dimly lit restaurant. There was even a table under the stairs where a young bohemian couple was sharing a pot of tea. All beverages were consumed in china and the presentation of the deserts was magnificent. I also discovered it is open late everyday. I'm talking midnight and even 2am on Friday and Saturday. Let's just say there is a lack of Starbucks and Steak n' Shakes around here for us late-nighters. This has been increasingly detrimental to my restless behavior. Anyway, Spats was a fantastic discovery and I cannot wait to return.

After we went out for a few drinks at a place called Boho. This place was equally as awesome, but in a magical kind of way. The feel was circus meets Moulin Rouge. All the furniture was rather Victorian. You sort of felt like you could be anyone you wanted to be. In fact, I think some people had on costumes. The drink of the month was called "Cody's Barking Canadian" so naturally I supported "team" North America and ordered one of these. According to the Canadians, there was nothing Canadian about it, except maybe that it was red?

Saturday Jethro and I went to the horse track. There was not a lot going on but we did get to see one race. Jethro has been talking about going to a big race for a while and I really want to buy a full brimmed hat, preferably with an obnoxiously big bow. Hopefully we can make this happen in the future.

Looking to fulfill our hunger, we took the tram a bit further to Glenelg. Craving Mexican, we ordered some nachos. I think we do a fair bit of complaining about the restaurant food here. It is hard when you order something and expect it to taste like you're used to, and it does not. We have been doing a lot of cooking lately. Last week at the market we bought 2 kilos of red wine and garlic marinated kangaroo for $15. This has resulted in kangaroo quesadillas, chili with kangaroo, curried kangaroo, kangaroo with rice, kangaroo with potatoes, kangaroo with vegetables and any random mixture of those things. I just realized I said I didn't eat meat very often. I guess this makes me a liar.
Sunday I went to a professional netball game with some girls. It was interesting. The rules are sort of like ultimate frisbee. It was a really good game and Adelaide came from three points down to win in the last two minutes.
We are looking into our travel options for when I get out of classes. I am excited to plan. :]
Oh my, those desserts are almost too pretty to eat! I hope they were as delicious as they were beautiful. Best wishes on the last papers and your final. Praying for you every day and thinking of you even more often.
ReplyDeleteThanks for allowing everyone to see you on Skype this weekend. A couple people were "so surprised" to see your face they felt like they didn't say what they wanted to say.
Hugs and kisses.
Love you.
